Homemaking (Personal Care)/Home Help

Potential clients are assessed for service. Our team of Home Support Workers or Personal Support Workers will assist you with preparing meals, doing laundry, light housekeeping and personal care. Home Support Workers and/or Personal Support Workers are available for service seven days a week.

Duties Performed by our Home Support Workers

  • Operate household appliances
  • Dispose of normal household garbage
  • Date check food products in your refrigerator ("good until")
  • Clean the inside of the windows when they can be reached from the floor or a low step stool.
  • Clean and organize the cupboards, linen cupboards and drawers.
  • Hand washing of clothes
  • Ironing of clothes
  • Do essential mending
  • Wash sheer drapery only
  • Assist with banking and bill payments
  • Provide companionship

Duties performed by our Personal Support Workers

  • Assisting with bathing (sponge, bed, tub, shower)
  • Walking, climbing, or descending stairs.
  • Getting into and out of bed
  • Eating, dressing, shaving, mouth care, shampooing, skin care
  • Make an occupied bed
  • Oversee the self-administration of medication
  • Work with assistive care devices

Home Support Workers are instructed to perform only those tasks that are part of the plan of care and for which they have been trained. Client, family and direct service providers are encouraged to phone the office if there are any questions or concerns related to what duties the Home Support Worker may or may not perform.

Duties Not Performed by our Home Support Workers

  • Cleaning or changing your storm windows
  • Spraying for pests
  • Washing walls, cleaning garages and basements.
  • Sewing beyond basic repairs
  • Washing lined drapes
  • Painting or wallpapering
  • Weeding, raking, pruning, or cutting grass.
  • Rearranging furniture
  • Turning mattresses
  • Applying heating pads
  • Dyeing, cutting and/or perming hair
  • Removing hair with tweezers
  • Purchasing of non-prescription drugs, alcohol, or tobacco products
  • Cleaning stove or oven (unless authorized by manager)
  • Pickling vegetables, freezing and preserving (unless authorized by manager)
  • Cutting finger or toe nails
  • Administering medications (prescription or non-prescription)
  • Procedures normally performed by a health care professional
